Spring- end of week 2

Date: 16th Jan 2022 @ 8:51am

Two weeks have passed by so quickly.

The children learnt more about the Epiphany/The Kings visit, and took turns to pretend to visit Jesus in the stable.
We have now begun our new topics for the spring term. In RE the topic is Getting to know Jesus. We are talking about how we show love for others and how we know Jesus loves us.

We will also be learning about festivals- on Tuesday 1st February Chinese New Year begins, this year it is the year of the tiger. We are linking this festival to a well known children's book - The Tiger Who Came to Tea. We have already read the book and started to change our home corner to the kitchen in the story.

You will have had new reading books come home with your child on Friday. These books follow the new phonics scheme that we use in school. Each child has a book and a sheet (which can be kept). The inside front cover of the book, and the sheet have explanations of what to do. The children have read through their books and sheets in school and should be able to do this at home with you.
I have spoken to all the children about the importance of looking after the books and returning them to school on Monday. The books can then be isolated before going out to another family. Please ensure that water bottles are kept separate from the children's books and that younger siblings do not damage them.

As mentioned last week, we are trying to spend as much time as possible outside at the moment. We also have doors and windows open all day to ventilate the rooms. It is therefore  quite cold and children need sufficient layers of clothes on.

Although we cannot yet use the parish or school hall for PE, we intend on getting the children changed for PE (as this increases their independence & shows who can do this unaided). Most children have their PE bags in their lockers from before Christmas, if your child does not have a PE kit, please send in a white t-shirt, black shorts/leggings and black pumps in a bag.
Please remember that your children need opportunities to do things for themselves at home, I encourage you do practise with them - doing buttons, fastening zips, taking off and putting on their clothes. As you can imagine, if all the children need our help to do these tasks - then it makes life difficult in school.

Also ALL items of their clothing should be labelled with their name. So many items of clothing go missing and unfortunately if they aren't labelled it makes it increasingly impossible to find which item belongs to who.

Regards

Mrs Buckley
