Summer 1- end of week 3

Date: 13th May 2022 @ 8:09pm

This week the children have loved learning more about space. We have been listening to and learning a song about the planets. The children drew planets and used word cards with the names of the planets on to label their planet. They cut them out and next week we will be making a collage of the planets.
Most of the children have made an astronaut's helmet in the craft area, they have enjoyed pretending to fly off into space.

In the construction area many children made rockets and spaceships, their imaginary play has been really brilliant. This topic has really got them all talking about the world and space.

We have also been looking on Google maps to see where we live in Stockport. I have been checking whether the children know the number on their door and their address. We talked about how it is important to know where we live.

In maths this week we have been thinking about what number comes after a given number and also what comes before. Some of the children worked out that they could count back to find the answers.

In phonics and reading the children are doing well in school. Once again I am having to remind parents to please read your child's book at home each night and sign their reading record. I cannot stress enough the importance of reading to your child and letting them read to you.

Next week is our last week of this very short half term. I will be sending out some information to help your child in their last half term of their reception year. It will let you know the kind of things I will be assessing them on, and how you can ensure that they achieve all that they need to.

Have a lovely weekend
