Autumn 2- End of week 3

Date: 20th Nov 2021 @ 8:27am

This week has been Nursery Rhyme week & Anti-Bullying week.

The children in our class celebrated Nursery Rhyme week and had great fun. Nursery rhymes are so important for young children's learning. It is predicted that if children know and learn 8 nursery rhymes by the time that they are 4 years old, then they will be the best readers by the time they are 8!

For this reason I wanted to share with you the rhymes we have been learning this week.

Incy Wincy Spider

Sleeping Bunnies

Wind the Bobbin

Heads, shoulders, knees and toes

Down in the jungle

Instead of reading the children's books this week, we have concentrated on singing and reciting the rhymes in class. We have introduced a special singing spot at the end of the day when any child can sing solo, if they wish to.

I encourage you to sing and learn the above nursery rhymes as well as Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Baa Baa Black Sheep and any others you remember.

BBC Teach has a brilliant selection for the children to listen to, learn and sing along to. For this weeks rhymes you can Google - Nursery Rhyme Week 2021 & there are videos.

As well as singing the rhymes this week, we have linked learning to each of them. So for Heads, Shoulders, Knees and toes, we learned about body parts. We have made craft spiders and talked about how many legs. We looked at what a bobbin is and Mrs Wilkins made some bobbins that the children were able to wind.

Finally, on Friday we celebrated "Friendship Friday" - an Early Years approach to Anti-Bullying. We talked about the theme of ONE KIND WORD.

We read the story- Elmer, and talked about celebrating difference. We talked about how we are all different, and how we all feel if someone is unkind. We made a friendship paper chain with kind words on and decorated an Elmer elephant.

All children were given a beautiful seahorse bookmark to celebrate difference.

As always it was a busy week of fun and learning.

Have a lovely weekend
